How to Handle Failure and Come Out Successful

Default Image

You often hear that failures are the building blocks to achievement and that the lessons you learn from these are the laying foundation to appreciating the successes you will attain in life. After all, our most fulfilling successes are best relished after overcoming disappointments.

Inevitably, failure is a part of life that all of us have to deal with. It is a matter of knowing to stand up once again after stumbling or faltering. Time and time again, we are reminded to “Try and try until you succeed.” We have to come to the realization and terms that we should never be embarrassed of our failures and always know to start over again with a different course of action. American businesswoman and founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics Inc., Mary Kay Ash, I think best expounded on this thought when she said that, “For every failure, there’s an alternative course of action. You just have to find it. When you come to a roadblock, take a detour.

I understand that it is very easy to say that you must get up once again and to have that same zeal to pursue a goal or a project. In reality, it is not. It comes along with frustrations, a loss in confidence, doubts, precious time and, in the case of business pursuits, money. However, it does not have to be. As what Mary Kay Ash said, you just have to find that alternative and, in some cases, the inspiration to take your failure, to use it at your best advantage and to eventually come out successful.

A lot of people do not see it, but failure is actually a step towards your final goal. And that is, you have guessed it right, success!

See The Good in Failure

In the principles taught in the Jacky Lim NLP Courses, we always say and believe that “There is no failure, only useful results.” This is one of the principles that we accept as true and practically apply them in our daily lives. Essentially, failures are nothing more than learning experiences or feedback, which you can draw upon to correct your ways towards achieving a desired outcome. It is a matter of perspective. Do you simply regard it as a “failure” or as an empowering agent that will point you to the right path of success?

A change in perspective on how you view failure can ultimately create a clear difference on how it will affect your life. Seeing failure (in its negative sense) into useful feedback as a powerful change conduit alters your behavior and priorities into persistently pursuing your goal to be accomplished with relative ease.

This is encompassed in the NLP Reframing technique, which basically puts the idea that life’s meanings all depends on your point of view. Think of it as putting the right spin into the experiences that you encounter from day to day. This is because the meaning of any experience will depend on how you frame or contextualize it. This way of thinking is probably one of the most useful, if the most useful, techniques in handling life’ s failures and challenges.

NLP Reframing provides you with the technique to consistently view your experiences in a way that supports you in dealing with the challenges that you face more ably. This helps you to respond differently in a more positive way. Instead of viewing failures as roadblock, see them as the golden doors of opportunity to take a better course of action.

Questions like, “What can I learn from this? ”, “What can I do to make things better? ”, “How could this be valuable? ” and “How can I come out triumphant? ”, are just some of the things that can help you reframe how you can view your supposed failures in a more positive light and juice out resourceful feedbacks.

In a nutshell, Reframing is a technique that lets you look and see the good in any of life’s given situation.

Revise and Start Over Again

But it takes more than a change of perspective. To come out successful, you have to know to revise your course of action. And sometimes, listening to what others may think or say can spell a huge difference in achieving your plans and goals and come out successful. Be open to suggestions. It will develop your way of thinking and the ability to engage in a meaningful manner with others.

Of course, no goal or plan can ever be successfully achieved without putting them into action. So when you fail and understand that it is a lesson to take a slight turn to achieve the desired outcome, it is time to start again. Do you hang on to disappointment and failures? Do you simply just lament on the life lesson? Of course not! Decide to move forward with your new plan because failures are not the finish line.

Failure is Never Personal

Lastly, do not take failure personally. It is a mere part of life that can be handled with grace and viewed in a different perspective. Take a look at this, for example. A lot of famous and successful people failed, not just on their first attempt, but also on several occasions. Just like Walt Disney, who was fired by a newspaper editor for his lack of creativity and good ides. But look at where his creative empire is now? Disney even inspired one of the success models in NLP.
