In it, we tackled the facets, the influential components and we even provided you some simple NLP exercises that can influence the results and outcomes in your life in a very enlightening manner. Not to mention that we have also given you a preview on some out of the ordinary NLP techniques. Surely, it was a first post packed with NLP basics.

But for sure, you are left hanging and screaming for more insights on these NLP techniques. If snippets are not enough for you, this article may be able to quench your thirst for inquisitiveness as we provide you with more in-depth facts on eight (8) of the incredible NLP life-changing techniques.

Grasping how each of these skills and techniques can work for you will allow making progressive changes and nurturing positive choices to become more in tune with yourself and connect more effectively with others. Truly, it can have a profound effect in the different aspects of your life. You would be surprised at how these techniques can unearth the reigns for you to be able to take control of your life and always stay motivated. It can shatter limiting beliefs and decisions, as well as hindering past emotions and behaviors, that have been pinning you down in realizing your inner potential.

Anchoring

Anchoring is an NLP technique that gives you the skill to manage and control your emotions and allows you to tap into positive mind states on demand. It can help you instantly change the way your feel whenever you are confronted with a situation that upsets you by accessing a stimulus that triggers a positive emotional state. The Anchoring technique basically teaches you to implant a sensation to your mind to trigger a desired state, say snapping your fingers to induce confidence whenever you experience stage fright during a presentation.

A basic Anchoring exercise involves recalling a situation when you experienced a positive emotion. Try to remember the feeling in vivid detail and when the emotion is at its peak, create a physical association using a subtle gesture. Use this exact same gesture whenever you want to access that specific emotional state anytime you want.

Belief Change

The name says it all; the Belief Change pattern works at changing a limiting belief and shifting it across to empowering ones. In NLP, self-limiting beliefs are the main obstacles in achieving success. It blocks your ability to achieve your desires and reach your goals. It can lower your aspirations, spawn patterns of self-sabotage, foster procrastination and even drain your energy.

This can be easily done by simply getting into the habit of revising a negative statement. Self-limiting beliefs are more often than not negative statements that you have been repeatedly telling yourself in the present tense that you actually believe it to be true. So, instead of saying “I am not beautiful enough,” modify the statement by saying “Each of us has a unique brand of beauty. I am beautiful in my own special way.

Dissociation

Dissociation is an NLP technique that works the same way as Anchoring in a sense that it allows you to change a certain negative feeling. However, it operates by neutralizing negative emotions associated with a past event by reprograming your brain’s response to it. It involves replaying a past event usually in reverse and tying it with a funny music, as if you were watching a comedy play. This helps you to change your perception on the past event that has affected you in a negative way. So instead of seeing a horrible situation in your past, Dissociation helps to lighten up the mood and change it in a manner that is no longer as horrific as it was before.

Future Pacing

Future Pacing uses mental imagery in anticipating how you will positively react in certain situations in the future. This is an NLP technique that checks whether a change process that you have learned is successful and can be practically applied in future situations. This works hand-in-hand with the Anchoring and Dissociation techniques, as it works to see whether a desired emotion can be triggered automatically. Simple Future Pacing exercises include imagining four possible future situations and assessing your reaction and response to the situation.

Mirroring and Modeling

One of the four pillars of NLP is that you are able to attain personal aspirations when you are able to master the art of building rapport. It allows you to build better relationships by establishing connection and communicating effectively with others and even yourself.

Mirroring involves naturally following how the other person is communicating to you to draw a desired response. This works by emulating the person’s hand gestures, facial expressions and sometimes even choice of words to elicit a positive feedback. This increases your likability and builds trust with the person you are communicating with. On the other hand, Modeling works by acting or saying words that you want the other person to take on or say and can be very useful when doing a sales pitch.

Reframing

Reframing is not unique to NLP and is actually used in other approaches, but certainly, it is one of the most powerful techniques. It teaches you to change how you perceive a situation, thereby; also affecting how you respond and behave in such scenarios. It works on the NLP presupposition or premise that every behavior is useful and has a positive intent and can serve well in a variety of situations. And it takes seeing things in a different point of view. Think of Reframing working similarly in jokes, where certain life events are given a funnier spin on how you should respond and react to it.

Sleight-of-Mouth

How about putting on a magical spin in harnessing your persuasion skills? The Sleight-of-Mouth technique is anchored on the concept of the Sleight-of-Hand of magicians to skillfully make impossible things happen. While it is one of the most advanced language skills in NLP, mastering this technique will allow you to win every argument, eliminate objections, or breakdown communication barriers. Sleight-of-Mouth teaches you 14 original patterns of responses to conquer communication challenges.

Swish Pattern

Yet another life changing NLP technique is the Swish Pattern. It works by “swishing” or replacing an unfavorable emotion with a more useful one in any given situation. Think of it as the copy-paste function of your computer. You copy the good things and paste them somewhere else. And in the case of self-transformation, replacing it in an undesirable event or experience. This is one of the most effective techniques in dispelling fears and phobias.

NLP certainly has some interesting techniques to transform you into a whole new and better individual. And to say that the exercises are fun is an understatement. More so when you learn these techniques from Singapore NLP trainer Jacky Lim.
